Purity and testing

How do I know your shilajit is actually pure?

Every batch of Sunna Foods shilajit is sampled and sent to an independent German laboratory before any units ship. The lab checks heavy metals, microbial contamination and identity. Nothing leaves on a previous batch's certificate, and the results are published on our Lab Tests page so you can read them yourself instead of taking our word for it.

Who tests Sunna Foods products?

Testing is carried out by Plenum-Analytik GmbH, an independent laboratory in Germany based at Muthesiusstrasse 6, D-12163 Berlin, with a site in Ennepetal. Dr. Markus Born, who holds a PhD in Chemistry from TU Munich, is Head of Laboratory there and personally signs the Befund, the final assessment, on every Sunna Foods batch certificate. He is not a Sunna Foods employee.

How often is each batch tested?

Every 90 days, and every new production batch. We do not pool batches together and we do not test once a year. A batch is produced, a sample is sent, the lab completes its analysis, and only then is the batch cleared to ship.

What exactly do you test for?

Three things: heavy metals, microbes and identity. Identity testing confirms the material is what the label says it is, which matters with shilajit, where adulteration is a known problem across the wider market.

Can I see the lab certificates myself?

Yes. Every test result for every product is published and downloadable on our Lab Tests page. You can open any certificate and read it in full.

Why do you test in Germany?

Germany holds some of the strictest pharmaceutical and food safety standards in the world. Our laboratory partner operates under EU GMP frameworks and uses the same DIN and ISO methods used to certify medical-grade ingredients, and our production is HACCP-mapped.

Choosing between the shilajit products

What is the difference between the capsules, the powder and the gummies?

They are three formats of the same ingredient, and the right one depends on how you want to take it. The capsules use a shilajit dry extract standardised to 20% fulvic acid and give you a fixed dose with no measuring. The powder is 250g of purified shilajit at 5% fulvic acid, which suits people who want to set their own serving size or stir it into a drink. The gummies are the easiest to keep up with daily, sugar-free and vegan, with none of the bitterness of raw resin.

What does 20% fulvic acid mean, and why is the powder only 5%?

The percentage is how much fulvic acid the material is standardised to contain. The capsules use a concentrated dry extract, which is why the serving is small at two capsules. The powder is purified shilajit rather than a concentrated extract, so the serving is larger at 1g. A higher percentage is not automatically better, it reflects an extract versus a whole purified powder.

Which one should I start with if I have never taken shilajit?

Most people start with the capsules. Two a day, nothing to weigh, no taste, and a 90-capsule pack lasts about a month and a half. Move to the powder later if you want to control your own serving, or to the gummies if you know you will skip anything that feels like a supplement routine.

How long does one pack last?

The 90-capsule pack is roughly a 1.5-month supply at two capsules a day. The 60-gummy jar is about one month at two gummies a day. The 250g powder pouch is roughly eight months at a 1g serving.

Questions about a specific product

This page covers questions that apply across our whole range. Dosage, format, ingredients and what each product is typically used for are answered on the product's own page.

Halal and the company

I am Muslim and I struggle to find supplements I can trust are halal. Where does Sunna Foods stand?

That difficulty is the reason this company exists. Most supplement brands treat halal as a certificate to obtain rather than a standard to build around, and gelatine capsules and unclear sourcing make much of the category unusable. Halal standards are built into how every Sunna Foods product is made, our capsules are vegan rather than gelatine, and in Islam that responsibility is called amanah, a trust. When someone chooses our products they are trusting us with their health.

Are all Sunna Foods products halal?

Yes. Halal is treated as a requirement across the whole range rather than a label added to selected products.

Where are your products made?

Our products are produced in Germany and ship from Germany, and batch testing is carried out in Germany by an independent laboratory.

Who leads the science at Sunna Foods?

Dr. Mouri R. J. Faruque is Head of Science at Sunna Foods, with a background in biomedical research and natural health sciences. Her responsibility is making sure every product meets the company's quality standards. Laboratory testing is kept separate and independent, and is handled by Dr. Markus Born at Plenum-Analytik GmbH.

Taking our supplements

How long before I notice anything?

We are not going to give you a number, because anyone who does is guessing. These are daily supplements rather than products with an immediate effect, and how people respond varies. The honest answer is to take them consistently for a few weeks and judge for yourself. If it turns out not to be for you, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee and you do not need to justify using it.

Who should not take these products?

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, taking prescription medication or managing a medical condition, speak to your doctor before starting any supplement. Supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet or for medical care.

Can I take your products alongside my other supplements?

Many people do, and we have no general restriction. We will not tell you it is safe with your specific stack though, because that depends on what else you take and on you. If you are on prescription medication, check with your doctor first.

Should I take them with food or on an empty stomach?

Serving guidance differs by product and is printed on each label and product page. We have no general restriction on taking our products with or without food.

Price, ordering and returns

Why are your products more expensive than what I found on a marketplace?

Because of what sits behind each batch. Independent laboratory analysis every 90 days on every batch costs money, EU production costs more than the alternative, and publishing every certificate means we cannot quietly ship a batch that underperforms. Cheaper supplements exist in large volumes. What is usually missing is any way for you to verify what is in them.

Which countries do you ship to?

We ship across Europe, to the United Arab Emirates and to the United States, and to most other countries through our worldwide market. Our storefront is available in English, German, Danish, Finnish, Swedish and Arabic. Current rates and delivery times are on our Shipping Policy page.

What if it is not for me?

Every product carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. The full conditions are on our Refund Policy page.
